We find ourselves living in a changed world where employers are focusing more on in-depth specialized studies and hands-on experience. Thus, it could be rather difficult after years of studying to get hands-on experience in particular subjects. So this month, the focus is on continuous learning.

Below is a list of things you should know and which will help you continue to horn your skillset to become an on-demand employee. Let’s start!

Specialization. For the past few years, we have witnessed drastic changes in educational requirements. Not only in degrees and certificates, are several corporations and start-ups requiring for specialization in specific fields of studies – when scanning for the appropriate resume to do the right job. If you finally find out what you’re good at after college, specialized in that specific field and own it.

Company demands. Companies have become very demanding. Some even focus on activity records aside from academic records. Continuing learning and participation in extracurricular activities demonstrate your soft skills and your ability to learn. Find other activities that you can share your expertise, make yourself available to help, and learn as you participate in social groups.

Self-study courses. There are many ivy-league institutions, organizations, and online platforms offering an abundance of self-study courses and other materials in which one may use to acquire specialized training and knowledge. With a moderate fee, it’s easy to get your hands on that new knowledge needed to excel in your career and your job. Just get to it.

Free education. Did you know there are a plethora of learning platforms out there? Some to list a few are Edx, Coursera, Udemy. If the courses are not free, then you can pay a small fee to enroll. It’s easy to get your hands on some type of educated materials that will help you gain new knowledge to better yourself in your pursued endeavors. Some people believe that if it’s worth much in the form of money, then it should be efficient. Don’t fall in this trap. The free platforms are also effective. Don’t value only what has a price tag attached to it.

Those who are not successful usually make the mistake of believing that the “knowledge-acquiring” period ends when one finishes school. No, it doesn’t. This is the month where you are acquiring some new knowledge and perhaps engaging in continuous learning.
