The owner Fanfan TiBot has such a friendly personality. He welcomes you with the right hug, the right word, and the right attitude.
Friday night is Fritay Night. For the right price, you can order from fried pork “griot” to fried goat “Taso” complimented with some pikliz and a side of akra. Everything is fresh. Nothing from overnight leftovers. “I wouldn’t serve someone what I wouldn’t eat” stated Fanfan, the owner.
This place is like a Haitian meet-up hub where friends gather to catch up. If you’re my grandpa’s age you probably remember playing old school, classic jazz from Tropicana band while playing dominos. This bistro is not your regular Haitian restaurant. Kreyòl tonbe, Kreyòl leve. DJ Joubert who took over at 10 pm lit the place up with hot kompa music one after the other.
People are very friendly. Everyone is greeting everyone. People are laughing, eating, and moving their heads to the sound of the jazz music playing in the background. Not only are the people are friendly, but the place is also friendly.
Whitney, one of the servers, greeted us with the perfect smile. Customer service was on point. She asked us if we would like something to drink and if we were ready to order. Customer service is key as an advice to all Haitian restaurants owners.
Their House special punch was on point. And of course, they had the Haitian famous alcoholic drink “Prestige“.
Fanfan who has worked in several projects before opening the restaurant has always wanted to run his own business. He’s an advocate. A singer. A giver. A businessman. And a friend to everyone who sets foot to his premises. His first job was as a security job where he makes $2 hourly. And now the owner of Haitian bakery and bistro! He has traveled to different places throughout his singing career before opening the Haitian bakery –turned into Bistro Resto in Spring Valley, NY.
Fanfan left us with some wise words to inspire young Haitian-Americans:
- “Do something with 120%. Life is easy, but you need the discipline to make it easy. Whatever you want, go after it. Use what’s within your reach and act upon it.”
- “Talk about money. Don’t be afraid
- “There’s no rule in making money. Use what you have. It’s America. Use the opportunities in front of you.”
