Meet Kevin Rousseau from Ayiti Promotion: Supporting Local Artists and DJs in Haiti

Kevin Rousseau left Haiti in 2013 to study Business Administration in the Dominican Republic. However, he had to rejoin his family in Haiti a few years later. While in the Dominican Republic, he started a small business that promotes and manages artists showcasing Haiti’s culture through music, gastronomy, and night-life.

This was mostly done through Social Media. He partnered with local businesses and restaurants to organize events that will help the artists as well as promoting the Haitian culture.

Kevin believes Social Media promotion is a remarkable marketing tool needed to manage artists, notably DJs and producers. In the upcoming months, Kevin hopes to select one of the youngest DJs that know and produces music to invest in their branding and sell the image of Haiti as well as the Haitian culture at a national and international level.

In Haiti, some upcoming artists have potentials, but they are missing the guidance to move forward with their dreams. Kevin has personally invested his own money to support DJs in getting better equipment and devices, and organized events for them to get their names out there and to get some deals.

Kevin hopes to take his social business worldwide just like World Star Hip to reach everyone who possesses a platform from advertising, graphic design, branding, and promotion. Anything that involves the Internet.

Most advertising agencies are focusing on print design in Haiti. However, the country has not yet opened to online and digital marketing. Thus, in other countries, companies are moving away from traditional advertising format to utilizing more online features which also generates more traffic around the Internet. “Most people look into online for reviews and the right gears to use. Online Promotion could be implemented in Haiti to get more customers”, says Kevin.

Kevin was selected to have the scholarship to study Advertising and Visual Arts in New York and hopes to finish the process so that he can achieve this significant move in his career.

In Haiti, Kevin has worked with some major clients including Access Haiti and Haiti Open. Also, he currently manages Ayiti Promotion social pages.

Kevin appreciates the new trends he currently seeing in Haiti. “More events are taking place to involve young entrepreneurs.” Those activities are essential for the new generation, although it has become a hobby for some as they link-up and network with other people.

His message to the Haitian Youth:

  • Find people in your field and disciplines who can share their knowledge with you to start your business.
  • Many people are not just sure where to get the help, but help is always there.
  • Surround yourself with people who are on their way to make a change.
  • Stay focus on your dreams because you would have to pass through several phases to achieve your goals.
  • Help the maximum of people you can without expecting nothing in return so that karma can be to your advantage.
  • Don’t buy things to impress people.
