3 Reasons Why You Should Ignore Negative Criticism

Often times we don’t pursue our dreams and goals because we are afraid of what the mass might say. I’m speaking of experience here. I have my share in the game of positive and negative criticism.

I have times when I really wanted to go with an idea but stop in the middle of planning simply because I’m worried about what others might say afterward. Truth be told, it shouldn’t be that way. You should always be firmed on your decisions and carry out your well-thought plan regardless of what others might think.
Thus, some people are out there to do nothing but to destroy your confidence through badgering negative comments.

If you missed something on your plan which brings some implications, then it’s OK. Just redesign your plan, rethink your strategies, pick the load where you left off and keep moving. Keep in mind, God deviates your plan a little bit for your own good. You don’t have to be discouraged if things don’t go as planned.

Below I outline 3 simple reasons why you should keep on despite negative comments.

  1. You learn as you go. Life is all about learning. Absolutely no one knows everything. Some people never get things right on the first try. They have to go a couple of times before they get it. Therefore, if you stumble up somewhere on your journey while accomplishing your dreams, just embrace the fall and evaluate what went wrong. If folks are whispering unconstructive feedback, learn from the critique, make some changes and move on.
  2. Confidence is the product of belief. Paul says in Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” The only way you will keep moving when others are criticizing your tactics is to keep your confidence. And you gain confidence through faith. So despite what men can say when you’re working on your visions, stay confident and don’t lose faith.
  3. Distinguish opinions and facts. I’m sure to believe something that is factual. But when you’re only nitpicking based on your own opinions, this wouldn’t affect me at all. But again, if you’re providing me with data and real knowledge that what I’m working on will not work, then I’ll certainly alter my design and take your critique into consideration.

Don’t be like those who let heedless views destroy their plans and hopes. Critiques are good though. Whether negative or positive as they could be. Just don’t let them affect you to the point where you completely give up. Critique can help you proceed with necessary changes, learn from your mistakes and apply well-meaning modifications to your plan for the better. In the end, rely on your own personal instincts and march on to victory.
