How To Deal With Your Closed-Minded Crew

I get it, so you like sharing. You love reading. You enjoy learning new things. But, your tribe, not so much. Therefore, you become stuck in your mind because you are not exploiting what you’re learning.

There’s no point to keep going to school or learning new things if you don’t have an avenue to explore your new knowledge. You will probably end up with a brain with so much knowledge that no one is benefiting from. If you keep amassing new knowledge without using it, you could lose what you have learned.

Remember that your skills and knowledge are only powerful when they serve a purpose. So the saying “knowledge is power” is only valid when your knowledge is valuable to your growth or community.

Now how do you deal with your small-minded crew?

Build a new community

If you can’t find one, build one. I’ve learned that when you need something but can’t find it, make it yourself. That’s how businesses are created. Startups are so popular. There were all designed with a purpose: to offer something currently not offered or to enhance a service that needs some adjustments. So go out there and find a new crew or feel free to create one.

Attend networking events

Some of us tend to keep ourselves in our little boxes. We don’t step out there and let people know what we are capable of but keep complaining that people don’t value our skills. Well, if you don’t sell yourself to your surroundings –at a personal and professional level- then they will never know what you’re capable of. So I encourage you to attend some community events that support your interests. Increase your network or create a new one. Simple as that.

Volunteer your skills and knowledge

There are tons of organizations out there that would love to have someone like you on their team. But, unfortunately, they can’t pay for your experience due to limited financial capacity. So you can reach out and help them while using your skills. While your job might not offer you the opportunity to grow and use your expertise fully, share it free, so you don’t lose it. You never know where this volunteer experience can take you. And hey, you can add it to your resume!

So will you go out there and find your new crew? I am sure there are other ways you can step away from your closed-and-small-minded tribe. Feel free to share in the comment section below. But, for now, use the tips above and keep on growing!
